About us
Saimaan Teatteri, founded in 2014, is a touring theater group consisting of 17 professional theater artists. For the last 10 years we have been touring the Saimaa lake region in eastern Finland by boat during the summers. The performances are held in old community houses in rural areas.
The boat, owned by a scout association from Mikkeli, Ekin Partio, is rented for each summer.
We define our performances as contemporary folk theater. They challenge the traditional summer theater genre and the concept of entertaining theater on the whole. Our performances are easily approachable, combining different forms of expression, and relying firmly on the audience’s understanding of theater. Saimaan Teatteri wants to create and develop performances that the audience will not encounter in other summer theaters.
In the future, we are also looking to expand our activity outside of the summer season, with interesting collaborations coming up.
